World Space Week is observed internationally as a celebration of science and technology and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition through a greater understanding of space, its exploration, and our place in the Universe. CosmoVerse is a network of researchers who work on understanding the nature of the Universe. The network is centered in Europe but has a global reach.
Denitsa Staicova
Assoc. Prof. Denitsa Staicova is a researcher at the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, whose work focuses on cosmology, dark energy, and the application of machine learning techniques to astrophysical data. Her research combines statistical inference, neural networks, and observational cosmology to investigate the expansion history of the Universe and test cosmological models using Type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, gamma-ray bursts and other astrophysical probes. She is particularly interested in physics-informed machine learning, cosmological model reconstruction, and extracting robust cosmological information from complex and noisy datasets. Her work sits at the intersection of cosmology, astrophysics, and data science, contributing to our understanding of the large-scale evolution of the Universe and the nature of dark energy.
Luca Visinelli
Luca Visinelli is a professor at the University of Salerno. His research explores some of the biggest open questions in modern cosmology: What are dark matter and dark energy? What happened in the early Universe? And how can black holes, gravitational waves and new particles help us find answers? He is particularly interested in finding particles beyond the Standard Model that could constitute dark matter. Before joining Salerno, he worked at universities and research institutes in the United States, Sweden, the Netherlands, China and Italy, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute. His work received the 2021 Buchalter Cosmology Prize. He is also active in science communication and outreach.
